The Story Behind FaithSigns

–– FaithSigns LLC is a Lutheran pastor’s effort to bring more ASL resources to the Church

Hi! I’d like to tell you about FaithSigns.

FaithSigns is my way of providing and sharing with others the resources that I made and developed while working as a pastor serving Deaf churches. I’ve served in Deaf churches for over 20 years.

When I first started working in Deaf ministry, I was disappointed because of how few resources there were that I could use as a pastor of a Deaf church to teach the faith or to use for Bible study.

Hearing churches have plenty of resources they can use – books, DVDs, audio, different print resources… but for a Deaf church, where are the ASL resources? There are not enough ASL resources that Deaf church members can use to grow their faith.

That’s why, for the past 20 years, I’ve been doing what all other Deaf church pastors & Deaf ministry leaders have needed to do – create my own resources. Anyone who works in Deaf ministry finds that that’s what they have to do. There are simply not enough ASL resources out there that Deaf church members can use to grow their faith.

It would be nice if Deaf ministry workers, and Deaf people themselves, could find ASL resources to help them grow their faith, and grow in their knowledge and understanding of God.

That’s why I started FaithSigns LLC. After 20 years, I’ve made and developed some good resources. I made for myself what I couldn’t find. What I made, I used in my church. My resources worked well and and met with good success. The Deaf people in my church truly appreciated my teaching and the resources I developed to use with them.

I think others will appreciate my resources, too, and benefit from having an ASL resource that they can use. My resources offer good Christian teaching with good, clear ASL.

But!— For me to use in my church the resources that I created – that’s one thing. It’s a different thing to make those same resources available to others. Once I start making them available to others, I must now pay licensing fees to use & distribute copyrighted material; I must pay publishing costs to make those resources available.

Maybe that’s the reason why there’s a lack of ASL resources that Deaf people can use to grow and strengthen their faith in God.

Deaf church pastors, Deaf ministry leaders, and Deaf people themselves need more ASL resources that they can use to support & grow their faith.

I am only one person, but I’m doing what I can to help that need. That’s the reason and the story behind FaithSigns LLC.
